The WFCHRIE community mourns the passing of Britt Mathwich, Associate Professor of Business and Hospitality Management at Colorado Mesa University (CMU).

Britt brought more than 40 years of hospitality industry experience to his teaching, with expertise in destination resort management and development. At CMU, he began teaching in 2011 and was known for connecting theory with real-world hospitality practice through industry examples, guest speakers, internships, and experiential learning. He also helped form and advise the CMU Hospitality Management Club and contributed to the development of the Hospitality Management Advisory Board. His work included research and presentations on hospitality internships, competitive benchmarking, ethics education, and the development and operation of Hotel Maverick, CMU’s on-campus teaching hotel.

Britt was also deeply involved in professional service. He served as Director of Education for WFCHRIE and was an active member of hospitality organizations including ICHRIE, AHLA, CHLA, and HSMAI.  In recognition of his outstanding service, he received the WFCHRIE Lifetime Service Award at the 2023 West CHRIE Federation Conference in Las Vegas.

Britt’s dedication to hospitality education, student success, and professional service left a meaningful impact on our field and our WFCHRIE community. He will be deeply missed by colleagues, students, and friends.

Rest in peace, Britt.
